A Masters of Art student of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Gabriel Nii Otu Ankrah, has threatened to sue the university.

Mr. Ankrah says the university authorities excluded him from the list graduands without explanation.

His lawyer, Mr. Jonathan S. Lari, in a letter addressed to the school, said, “Our client says he was enrolled in 2013 into the university to pursue a Masters of Art, Development Communication, a sandwich post-degree program. He successfully completed the course in 2014 and submitted his dissertation paper in February 2015 together with his colleagues.”

The letter explained that Mr. Ankrah’s supervisor, Mr. Lawrence Naaikuur “reviewed his work, assented to it and forwarded same to the Head of Department, Dr. Cuubat Bataar. Our client’s personal checks at the Department of African and General Studies revealed that he had fulfilled all requirements including that of the dissertation and was qualified for graduation.”

The student, through his lawyers said, in spite of meeting all the requirements to graduate, when the final list of graduands was released, his name was missing.

According to him, all attempts to get answers failed.

The lawyers say, “Our client in anticipation of his graduation has already committed himself to further studies by completing some processes in that regard.”

They said the cost to Mr. Otu Ankrah, if the issue is not resolved to enable him graduate, will be incalculable.

“Our client wants to notify you and notice is hereby given…that should you fail to graduate him this Saturday, 11^th day of April 2015, we would be compelled to take legal action against you,” the letter concluded.
