Argentina have been labelled as Ghana’s "biggest challenge" at next month’s Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
The Ghana Under-20 side, the Black Satellites’ management boss, Wilfred Osei Palmer, has been speaking about the country’s preparations and chances as they return to the battle field to challenge for the world title they won in Egypt six years ago.
Ghana have Austria, Argentina and Panama in Group B of the 24-team world championship which will span from May 30 to June 20 in seven host cities.
Wilfred Osei, the experienced football administrator, has revealed the Sellas Tetteh-led technical team has marked powerhouse Argentina as its biggest threat after profiling Ghana’s group opponents.
“We’ve analyzed them from afar. We’ve profiled the respective teams,” he said in an interview.
“We know definitely that our biggest challenge will be Argentina because at any youth tournament, those countries from Latin America represent a very formidable force. So having Argentina in our group, we know they will be our biggest challenge. Mind you, it’s our second game."
The Ghana FA Executive Committee member was however quick to add that, the Black Satellites are equally aware of the threat posed by Austria and Panama.
“We are not underrating the other nations because if you look at Austria, they are operating the kind of policies that Switzerland are doing.
“They tend to have the ‘United Nations’ approach – they take talents from other countries that will be of good use to them and develop them. Being mindful of that, we know they are of the bulk of such players with the Man City team and definitely, would be tough customers.
“Panama is also a place where football is highly developed so we need to respect them,” he added.
The Black Satellites began a residential camping in Accra last Tuesday and are likely to leave for Australia for the next phase of their World Cup preparations in a fortnight.
