Joseph Agbeko says he will need another tune up fight before attempting a world title shot. But he's promised to land a world title by close of year.
Agbeko's latest victory came on Saturday evening when he floored Juanito Rubillar after four-rounds in a technical knockout win. The bout, which took place at the El Paso County Coliseum in Texas, saw a strategic Agebko in action.
The Fresh King cut above the left eye of his Filipino opponent in the second round and cleverly repeated good combinations to send his opponent down two rounds later.
Despite the emphatic win, Agbeko tells Joy Sports that he won't take up a championship fight just yet.
"I have a few offers right now and my management is in consultation with a number of boxers. I think I'm readyfor a championship fight but I don't want to get into a competitive bout now".
"At the moment will like to take another tune up fight before I go for a title shot. But am still confident I will be a world champion by the close of the year."
The three-time world bantamweight champion (30-6, 26KOs) needed this win to get back into the title picture after 17 months without fighting.
"It took me a few rounds to get warmed up," Agbeko said. "But this is my best comeback."
This was his first game since signing a three-year deal with Roy Jones Jr. Boxing that includes two fights in the United States and one fight in Ghana every year.
