Barely a month after their homes were submerged, some burnt in a disastrous twin flood and fire disasters, residents around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle had their homes again taken over by floods after heavy downpour, Sunday.

There were no casualties in Sunday's floods but the residents are blaming the repetitive floods on the failure by the authorities to dredge the Odaw river.

The residents claim the choked Odaw drain must be cleared as quickly as possible to avert future disasters.

Joy News' Fiifi Koomson who visited the area reports that the drain is filled with silt and filth.

According to him the 'foreign' substance have taken much of the space in the drain so that when it rains heavily the drain overflows its banks and enters into peoples' homes.

Some of the residents told Joy News they are disappointed in government’s poor response to the flooding since last week Wednesday.

While there are concerns about the choked gutters, the residents are even more concerned about filth in the area left behind as a result of the June 3 flood disaster.

The Waste Management Company tasked to clear the garbage in the vicinity was itself affected by the floods as most of its fleet and equipment got damaged.

Innovations manager at the company Ekua Nkrumah told Joy News almost 70 per cent of the damaged fleet has been repaired.

She said with the help of the AMA, the company is almost working at full capacity to rid the area of filth.

She explained that as a result of the downpour houses and offices in the vicinity have four to five times more garbage created and her company is working around the clock to clear them all.

When she was asked if they will be dredging the Odaw river she said her company is for now concentrating on its core mandate given by the AMA and that is to clear the filth in the vicinity.
