President John Mahama has cut sod for the construction of a major highway to link Nsawam-Adeiso and Asamankese in the Eastern region.
The road project is to boost the cocoa economy in the region.
The president said the project will begin shortly after the sod has been cut. It is not clear how much it would cost to build the road.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs in the Region, the president said government has the development agenda of the people of Eastern Region at heart and will not fail them.
He called on the people in the Eastern Region to trust him and the government as he promises major infrastructural projects there.
Residents of the Eastern Region have consistently complained about the poor road network which is frustrating economic activity. Now the president has promised to fix them.
Joy News' Eastern Region correspondent Kofi Siaw reported the president as saying he would make sure all the roads in the region are constructed to make life a lot better for the residents.
Not only will the major highways be tarred, the president said many of the town roads in the region will also be paved.
He named the Kyebi, Nsawam and Adeiso town roads as some of the roads to be constructed.
