The Royal Bank Foundation has provided five boreholes to residents of Bukarikope, Abutia, Ative Dome and Kudzgbakope in the North Tongu and Akatsi districts of the Volta Region.
After several years of lack of good drinking water, the residents, who had been sharing their only source of water with animals, will now have access to clean water.
During the commissioning of the boreholes, the residents thanked the company for coming to their aid.
The Assemblyman for the area, Benjamin Dadedzi Mensah, in an interview with joy News said they have suffered for many years with regards to basic amenities including access to cleaning water.
Chairman of the Royal Bank Foundation, Faustel Asogba Cofie, said that the boreholes project forms part of the bank`s corporate social responsibility aimed at providing basic amenities to deprived communities.
The Head of Strategic Planning, Research and Corporate Affairs, Dr Kwame Baah –Nuakoh, noted that the Volta Region has become a key business hub in Ghana hence there is the need to provide key amenities for the people.
He revealed that the Royal Bank is likely to open branches in the region soon. He said the bank was at an advanced stage of feasibility studies to that effect.
Royal bank has opened 20 branches within the two years of its operation, and hopes to increase the number to 25 by the end of 2015.
An elder of one of the communities, Alhaji Bukari, also thank the bank for the boreholes, but said it was unfortunate that both the MP and the DCE for the area have not been able to help them with basic needs such as good drinking water.
According to him, they only come to the community when it is time for elections.
