Has former Arsenal defender Lauren given the game away, or has he simply jumped the gun? The retired footballer congratulated Petr Cech and wished him all the best with the Gunners – even though he hasn’t signed for the club.
Cech is expected to leave Chelsea this summer, with a move to Arsenal appearing to be the most likely option in order to keep his family in London. Despite being reluctant to strengthening a rival, Chelsea are willing to sell the goalkeeper to the north London club given Cech’s 11 years of loyal service.
The transfer is yet to be completed, and it means that the possibility of another club, such as Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester United, could make a late attempt to sign the 33-year-old. But that hasn’t stopped Lauren from tweeting his congratulations to Cech, albeit prematurely.
The 38-year-old, who retired in 2010, tweeted: “#All the best to Cech. Long time without stability in that position and another great gooner move to get the Premier League.”
Pay big money
Arsenal are prepared to pay Petr Cech £100,000 a week making him their highest-ever paid goalkeeper.
According to the Mirror, Arsenal are moving ever closer to completing the £10million signing of the Chelsea stopper in a deal the sees him receiving higher wages than what he currently earns at Stamford Bridge.
Former Arsenal keeper David Seaman believed Cech would find first team football with the Gunners.
Wojciech Szczesny is expected to offer some rivalry to Cech having lost his first team place to David Ospina after being caught smoking by Arsene Wenger last season.
Current No.1 Ospina on the brink of a move to Turkish side Fenerbache.
