Wife of the Vice President has apologised unreservedly for her comment in a chalk controversy that got the nation talking for days.
Matilda Amissah Arthur said her comment was intended to encourage community participation and not to insult anybody.
Speaking at the 40th anniversary of the Jack and Jill School in Cantonment, Accra, Mrs Amissah Arthur took advantage of the opportunity and apologised for her gaffe in Kukurantumi and hopefully put to rest the controversy that raged in the media for several days now.
"On Wednesday I went to Kukurantumi to make a presentation of five computers and 500 books to the Presby Day school upon a request i received.
"A comment I made has been in the media since then. I have for some years now tried in my small way by making donations.
"When the headmistress asked for chalk my response was to encourage community response in the school.
"If I have offended anybody, I take this opportunity to say I am very sorry," she said to a rapturous applause from the students.
Matilda Amissah Arthur grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons when she snapped at the headmistress of Kukurantumi for requesting chalk.
"The headteacher has shocked me…she said you lack chalk and log books...I am very shocked that you are today asking me about chalk...how much is a box of chalk…I won’t give you chalk today, I won’t give you chalk tomorrow” she said when the request was made.
Her comments were condemned widely by the general public but the second lady has since eaten humble pie with a bold apology.
