Ghana has handed a late call up to fan favourite Derek Boateng but his Spanish club Getafe are unwilling to release him claiming the request has come too late.
The Ghana Football Association have officially requested for the release of the player for the Nations Cup after injuries ravaged Milovan Rajevac's squad and left it thin on experience.
Stephen Appiah, Laryea Kingston and John Paintsil have all been ruled out by injury while Sulley Muntari was left out on disciplinary grounds.
But now Rajevac has been forced to call on Boateng who he left out of his initial despite playing regularly in the Spanish La Liga.
The player told KickOffGhana.com he is keen to honour the invitation but Getafe are unhappy at the late call up and can base a refusal on the fact that Ghana did not allow them the 14 day notice period required before the release of a player.
Boateng has never been Milovan Rajevac's favourite but the Serbian has called him up twice now when injuries have wrecked his original plans.
