Government on Thursday made good its pledge to reward the Black Satellites of Ghana for winning the U-20 World Cup held in Egypt in October.
At a short ceremony at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on Thursday, 21 players and two coaches were presented with Toyota saloon cars and a $10,000 investment bonds each due for maturity in 15 years.
Nine of the players were present whilst the rest were represented by their relatives.
Dr. Valery Sawyerr, Deputy Chief of Staff, who presented the package on behalf of President Mills, said the awards show that government appreciates the efforts by the nation’s gallant future heroes.
The visibly elated Coach of the team Sellas Tetteh told Joy News after the ceremony that the reward was “satisfactory”.
“It is not only what we have received but at least the recognition alone is so much so I thank God. I am quite delighted that a good job has been recognized.
“…It is great to be part of this development,“ he added.
He believed the award will spur others on for similar feat.
