The Kejetia Traders Association says it is ready to drop a legal suit against city authorities in Kumasi and begin fresh negotiations for relocation of its members.
Leaders of the association have meet with officials to indicate their resolve to allow talks on moving traders from the Kejetia Lorry Terminal, as well as compensation to proceed in a peaceful atmosphere.
Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu, however insists any negotiation with them will go contrary to the law.
The Human Rights Division of a High Court in Kumasi, dismissed a suit brought against the KMA by the traders.
Counsel for the KMA, Thadeus Sory, indicated in court, among others, per the Local Government Act, the traders should rather petition the Regional Coordinating Council.
In an interesting turn of events the traders who filed appeal pending hearing made a u-turn and paid a courtesy call at the assembly to declare their preparedness to drop the case if the assembly will let sleeping dogs lie and enter fresh negotiations with them.
Mr. Bonsu indicates he cannot grant them hearing whilst a legal suit is pending against the assembly.
Executive member of the Kejetia Traders Association, Andrews Koffie, tells Luv News the group wants peace to prevail.
“We wanted peace to prevail, so we spoke to Kojo Bonsu’s aide, Sammy Gyamfi, and he arranged for us to meet him. We wanted him to open negotiations and drop the court case but he insisted on seeing the court case through,” he told Luv Fm.
