A mother of an eight-year-old boy has dragged the Mary Mother of Good Counsel School in Accra to court after her son was allegedly tied and his mouth taped by his class teacher.
The teacher whose name was given by the boy as Ms Turkson sellotaped the mouth of the boy as punishment for talking too much.
The family of the victim is not only furious about the inhuman treatment meted out to the boy but the school’s unwillingness to take punitive action against the teacher.
They have filed the case at an Accra High Court demanding the dismissal of the teacher and compensation for their son and the cost incurred in moving him to another school.
Speaking to Joy News’ Francis Abban, the boy said “she [the teacher] asked me to go and put my homework in my bag and somebody was talking to me so when she saw me talking to the person she asked me to go sit down then she tied me up with a sellotape to the chair.
He added that “the whole class was laughing at me when she did that” adding that “the sellotape was too tight so I felt pain”.
The victim said his hands were tied behind his back and the sellotape wrapped around him.
He said “when my auntie came she begged the teacher to let me go home but he was busy marking the class work so my auntie had to use her teeth to get me out of the sellotape”.
The victim's mother, Yvonne Annan Forson Samson says her son has never been the same since the incident and is demanding justice to stop what she describes as the inhumane treatment of children at the Mary Mother of Good Counsel School.
“I don’t think the teacher is qualified to teach kids and the headmistress as well, I don’t think she is running the school appropriately because for this to happen and for her to condone and let the teacher still teach, is not right”.
She said she will not allow the teacher to go scot free because something worse could have happened.
Well Joy News visited the school for comment, however, the administrator, Father Amissah declined comment on the matter.
