Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) is alerting the general public particularly Hospitals Clinics and Pharmacies to desist from stocking and dispensing an unregistered antibiotic, Ciprobiotic 250.
A statement by the Authority said the drug is being imported and distributed on the Ghanaian market by Kojach Limited.
“The product, Ciprobiotic 250 (Ciprofloxacin Oral Suspension 250mg/5ml), has not undergone the necessary evaluations by the FDA hence the Authority cannot guarantee its quality, safety and efficacy,” the statement said.
Information on the packaging of the product indicates that it was manufactured in India by Fredun Pharmaceuticals Limited for Kojach Limited.
Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat different types of bacterial infections including skin infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea and typhoid fever
“Hospitals, clinics and pharmacies having stocks of Ciprobiotic 250 (Ciprofloxacin oral suspension 250mg/5ml) are advised to immediately hand them over to any of the FDA offices nationwide,” the Authority cautioned.
The FDA assured the general public of its resolve to protect public health and safety.
