High level decision makers, civil society and business leaders from Ghana and other African Commonwealth countries will come together in Accra to strategize on locally generated Collective Action Against Corruption at a one day forum.
The forum slated to take place on Monday 8 February, 2010, is being organized by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC).
It is part of an initiative being pursued under the Business Action Against Corruption (BAAC) founded on the view that corruption can only be tackled if cooperative alliances are built involving business, government and civil society.
The workshop is aimed at providing a platform for participants to share experiences and come out with strategies to be adopted in the fight against corruption which is increasingly becoming a threat to democratic
development in Africa.
It will also strengthen ownership of strategies to be adopted by participants in tackling corruption as well as initiate a network for businesses to work with other stakeholders in the fight against corruption which unduly increases the cost of doing business.
The BAAC is a project being implemented by the Commonwealth Business Council in six African countries namely Nigeria, Tanzania, Botswana, Malawi, South Africa and Zambia to mobilize businesses to play a more vibrant role in the fight against corruption.
The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition is expected to partner the Commonwealth Business Council in the extension of the project in Ghana.
