Stanley Martey, the communications manager of Aqua Vitens Rand Limited, managers of the Ghana water company has apologised for the inconvenience caused as a result of water shortage in some parts of the capital city.
Most parts of Accra especially the Accra West regions has been hit with an acute water shortage since last Thursday forcing residents to look for an alternative or travel miles to get water for their daily usage.
Stanley Martey, speaking to Citi News on Monday said engineers are working around the clock to fix the problem and attributed it to water splashing into their electric system which was due to one of its well water lines getting broken.
Recounting what actually happened, Martey said, “on Thursday afternoon, we had a problem at our intake. We had our control panels going off. Since Thursday afternoon, we have been working on it. Actually, we called in the Electricity Company of Ghana to also come and help us detect the problem and then have it solved but all efforts to trace the main problem have been a problem.”
“What actually happened was one of the well water lines got broken and then the water splashed into the control panels and it is an electric system...It blew off. We are now changing most of the components so that we will get it working. It is the control panel that controls the whole pump house so it’s a bit of a major problem and the control panel is not any small gadget. It is very huge and it’s about eight components,” he added.
He appealed to the general public to bear with the company as officials are doing all they can to restore water supply to the affected areas.
“We want to appeal to the general public to bear with us, we are on top of the situation and we are doing all we can to make sure that the problem is rectified as early as possible so that we can get water to the Western parts of Accra.”
