Deputy Works, Housing and Water Resources Minister Dr Hannah Bissiw says the ministry has placed a temporary ban on businesses that use a lot of water for their operations in Accra.
The directive follows the acute water shortage that has hit parts of the capital.
A control panel which controls pumps at the Weija Water Works is said to be out of operation and Public Relations Manager at Aqua Vitens Rand, Stanley Martey, has assured that engineers are working hard to correct a fault.
Dr Bissiw said as a temporary measure, the ministry would ensure that car washing bays and other businesses that run large quantities of water are completely shut down.
She was speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Monday.
"We are putting a ban on all the car wash so that the water that is coming in we can...[utilise it] well," she said.
According to the minister, water supply to domestic consumers has doubled since the closure of water hydrants in the city.
The minister responded in the affirmative when asked if she had confidence in the current management module at the Ghana Water Company Limited.
"Why not?" she retorted, and added that engineers were working around the clock to fix the situation.
"One thing that we do know is that we have customers that we have to serve; they are our customers and we owe them apologies...All apologies to our cherished customers. We are sorry for this problem at Weija. We need to serve them, we need to make them happy. And so we will do what it takes to satisfy if not the totality, a lot of these customers," she said.
