When 48-year-old Kwaku Mensah Aborampah met his wife several years ago, it was as though the heavens would fall. Every moment they shared was fun-filled, just electrifying.
The excitement was even heightened when she accepted his marriage proposal, one marked with a lot of pomp and circumstance.
However, little did he know that the woman who had filled his heart with so much joy would be the one to cause him the worst pain of his life.
“My first wife was arrogant, she was ungrateful and disrespectful. You know she could insult me and humiliate me at the least chance she gets. She felt I was irresponsible because I am generous. She didn’t want anyone to get close to me. Especially my family members, she said my mum is a witch because when my mother came home to see us after our first child was born. The little girl was so ill,” he said.
Aborampah is a successful business executive in one of the banks in the country. He speaks about his first wife with so much anger that you would think that after his experience with that woman, he wouldn’t consider marrying again.
Mistakes
Aborampah found new love but his own mistakes, according to him, resulted in another divorce.
Aborampah said his second wife on the other hand was awesome, a great loving wife to him and a sweet mother to the three children from his previous marriage. His teary eyes speak volumes of how disappointed he is at himself for failing to keep such a beautiful, loving wife.
“Agnes is the best thing that happened to me, I don’t even want to think about it. I just took her for granted she wasn’t the type who complains about anything. She was sober and calm. But I made a lot of mistakes with her. I would shout at her, and intimidate her. Looking back I see that it was my defensive way of making sure that she does not become strong and challenge my authority like my first wife. Now I know that women are different,” he said.
Aborampah’s story is one of several featured in the latest JoyNews Hotline documentary. Listen to the documentary below:
