Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH; a German development agency as part of the Expanded Employee Wellbeing Program, has held a week long health clinic at the Police Hospital in Accra to commemorate Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) awareness day.

The day, which is commemorated world-wide on September 9 of every year, is to sensitize society, especially expectant mothers, about the risks associated with alcohol consumption during pregnancy.

 This year, ABL, joined several sister breweries world-wide, in holding yet another session; the fifteenth of its kind to be organized in 5 health facilities since its inception a year ago, educating over 2,000 pregnant women.

This effort to minimize the unwanted effects of alcohol on the unborn child is part of the company’s wider on-going efforts to engage its stakeholders to collectively address and promote responsible drinking.

Commenting on the initiative, Adjoba Kyiamah, Corporate and Legal Affairs Director, said over the years, ABL has addressed societal challenges locally in partnership with stakeholders through various sustainable development initiatives especially in the areas of health and education

She affirmed that, as a market leader, the company adheres to exemplary ethical conduct in all its activities, adding that, a key focus in this regard is the promotion of a sociable world where their products are developed, marketed, sold and consumed with high regard for individual and community well-being.

“Today’s event is another facet of the wider, on-going campaign to ensure that both the retailers and the consumers of alcohol in Ghana, do so responsibly such that it does not produce unwarranted effects on people’s health and the societal fabric,” she stated.

Ms Kyiamah assured participants that Accra Brewery will continue to address and promote issues of responsible drinking into the future in collaboration with its development partners such as GIZ and other stakeholders in its line of business.
