The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has cancelled majority of papers of candidates who sat for this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and had their results withheld.
WAEC withheld the entire results of candidates presented by 185 out of 810 schools following widespread examination malpractices, which were pending investigations.
Head of WAEC Ghana, Very Rev. Sam Nii Nmai Ollennu told Joy News’ Kwetey Nartey 119 head teachers have also been made to sign bond of good behaviour for assisting students to cheat in the exams.
He indicated that the appropriate sanction has been meted out to students who were caught with foreign materials or prepared notes in the examination hall.
Some had their papers cancelled for cheating or total cancellation of entire results.
In some cases, students were barred from sitting the exams for two years.
Meanwhile, the Adjena and Benkum Senior High Technical Schools which were indicted in a Joy News investigation on exam malpractice in the 2015 WASSCE have had their English and History papers cancelled.
