The Kpando District is undertaking development projects to enhance its social economic infrastructure under the District Development Facility (DDF) fund, worth GHc000,000.
The projects are; a modern abattoir, paving of lorry and cabby parks, acquisition of motor bikes, rehabilitation of refuse skip trucks and the repairing of access roads around and within the Anfoega Senior High School.
The rest include the fencing and landscaping of Assembly premises, street lights, and reconstruction of the District Treasury building.
Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Kpando District Chief Executive, briefing the Ghana News Agency, said the performance-based DDF is a pooled-resource facility fashioned out by the European Union to assist emerging economies to strengthen its democratization institutions, good governance structures, social and economic infrastructures.
He said the Kpando district qualified for the facility based on the 2006 national performance appraisal, in which it placed second in the Volta region and 16th nationwide.
Mr Ganyaglo said the DDF would supplement the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to provide enormous facelift, boost the local economy, enhance revenue mobilization and add aesthetic value to prosecute a "Better Ghana" agenda.
He added that all ongoing development projects it inherited are receiving attention, including the rehabilitation of the assembly hall, a 36-unit store and re-fixing of 15 broken-down skip-trucks as well as the provision of electricity to all Primary and Junior High Schools and the construction of teachers’ quarters.
The DCE indicated that his administration is envisioned to develop and promote agriculture and tourism potentials of the area.
He said he would improve on the road network, revitalize the water system, re-introduce the pontoon services between Kpando-Torkor and the Afraim Plains.
Mr Ganyaglo, therefore, called on the private sector, corporate institutions, investors and development partners to invest in the district, promising a win-win situation.
