Four constituency executives of the governing National Democratic Congress have been suspended from participating in the party’s vetting process.
The party resumed vetting of its parliamentary aspirants in the Greater Accra and Volta regions today ahead of its November 7 polls.
But four executives of the Klottey Korley constituency had to be excluded for what the party describes as a breach of its election guidelines.
Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah monitoring event at the NDC headquarters in Accra said the four include the constituency organiser, youth organiser and women’s organiser.
The four did not deny supporting the aspirants when questioned. Three were supporting Dr. Zanetor Rawlings and one threw her weight behind the incumbent Member of Parliament, Nii Armah Ashietey.
Some were seen on the platform of the aspirants campaigning for them, constituency chairman Alhaji Mohammed noted
“They have been excluded from the vetting process for taking side,” he confirmed to Joy News, one cannot be “a player and referee” in the same game.
About 109 aspirants are expected to be vetted by the panel comprising regional and national executives of the party today.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said the vetting committee would consider a candidate’s suitability when measured against the national constitution and party‘s own constitution.
He said the party will “put smaller weight” on its own procedures to avoid situations where people try to disadvantage “ordinary party members”.
