Mr Clement Nene Huagie, President of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Paralegal Association of Ghana, on Monday said the new Domestic Violence Law was enacted to protect every Ghanaian and not a section of the people.
Mr. Huagie who was speaking at a sensitization durbar organized by the Association on the law at Chorkor, a suburb of Accra, rejected claims by some people that couples who felt aggrieved could use the law to punish their partners.
He urged the people to report cases of domestic violence to the police or paralegal aids to assists bring perpetrators to book.
Nana Akua Botchwey, Gender Advocate with the Association, urged parents to properly educate their children on adolescent reproductive health issues rather than leaving them to experiment things on their own.
She called on the youth to take their studies seriously rather engaging in pre-marital sex which could land them in problem.
The Association, a non-governmental organization affiliated to the International Federation of Women Lawyers, as part of its outreach programme, was targeting children and adults in deprived communities to sensitise them on the law.
It also sough to reduce social vices such as teenage pregnancy, rape, drug abuse and armed robbery in deprived areas including Bukom, James Town, Dansoman Tunga, Glefe and Korle Gonno.
