The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will dispatch its voters’ register to constituencies across the country on Monday.
NDC Director of Elections Samuel Ofosu Ampofo disclosed this at a rally organized by the party in the Eastern Region, Saturday.
“The register will be exhibited for members to check their names and ensure opponents do not infiltrate their ranks”, he said.
The move is part of preparations for the party's presidential and parliamentary primaries on November 17, 2015. The party says the exhibition of the register is also part of an ambitious plan to have every single card bearing member vote during the nationwide primaries.
According to the NDC, it has registered over 500,000 members through a biometric process, but it is hoping to increase membership nationwide, especially in the stongholds of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Some leading members of NDC have alleged that members of the opposition NPP have infiltrated the NDC’s voters' register to be used in the coming parliamentary and presidential primaries. Hence as part of cleaning the register, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo announced that NDC’s voters’ register is ready.
He urged all party members to go to their various constituencies and check their names so that corrections can be made to "ensure that the Agenda 50\50 is achievable."
The party launched Agenda 50/50 to win 50% of votes in the Eastern region which is noted as the second stronghold of its opponent, the NPP.
Meanwhile, when NPP’s ‘Rise and Build’ tour reached Oda in the Eastern Region.
NPP presidential candidate for 2016, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo charged executives in the region to ensure that the NPP wins not less than 70% of the popular votes in the region in 2016 general elections.
