Former First lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has predicted an end to the political dominance of the two major political parties, the NPP and NDC, both responsible for the last 30 years governance.

The optimistic leader of the National Democratic Party who was speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Tuesday, insisted that the “possibility of movement [away from NPP and NDC] is always there.”

But the greatest obstacle to the emergence of a party that can overthrow the uninterrupted duopoly is the posture of the media, Nana Konadu pointed out.

She criticised the media for sometimes appearing to be ‘permanently influenced’ by political paymaster.

According the former first lady, the media needs to appreciate its crucial role of representing the hope of the ordinary Ghanaian.

Apart from the three arms of government, the media is “the fourth group that can actually put them (politicians) in the right way so that they don’t make too many mistakes”.

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings wants the media to be "a little more accommodating" of other political parties and "help other parties to articulate" alternatives.

She believes that if the media develops a big heart of other parties, it will "help the country to open up to other political parties".

If the media fails to realize its position in Ghana’s multi-party democracy, the country, she warned is “going downwards”.

More soon.
