The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has planned to implement five modules this year under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to create jobs for 510 youth.
The modules are agriculture, community police, sanitation, ICT and traders and vocation.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister and Acting Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, who announced this in his sessional address to the assembly at Obuasi, said already 20 youth were selected and trained as sanitation aides to help beef up the staff of the Environmental Health Unit.
He said they were yet to start their duties and entreated the residents of the municipality to offer them the necessary co-operation so that they could perform as expected.
The Deputy Minister added that a six-month training programme for 70 health extension workers under the same youth programme had started.
“Under the contractual agreement with Zoomlion Limited to keep our surrounding clean, the assembly had engaged the services of additional 25 youth to beef up the existing number”, he said.
The Acting Municipal Chief Executive said already the 156 persons selected previously under the agriculture module to benefit from the micro-credit were ready to commence work during the impending major farming season.
Mr Osei Assibey-Antwi said new people had been identified and the assembly was liaising with the National Secretariat for new ones to be assisted.
He was satisfied that the NYEP continued to attract the patronage of more Ghanaian youth.
