The opposition New Patriotic Party has applauded government for reducing inflation.
At 11.66 percent for April, the rate is the lowest in more than two years and represents the tenth consecutive monthly decline.
It means though prices of goods and services generally went up in April, the rate of increase was less than that of March.
Government has taken credit for the drop. According to a statement issued by the Finance Ministry, the decline is consistent with government’s strategy to get inflation below ten percent and also indicates the economy is better off.
The NPP agrees to a large extent, except for concerns that Ghanaians may be paying a higher price for reducing inflation because government may not be committing funds to grow the economy.
Kwaku Kwarteng who speaks for the party on financial matters told Joy Business the savings are being wasted.
The media liaison officer of the Finance Ministry has however dismissed the party’s concerns.
