The National Communications Authority says only national ID cards can be used for data capturing purposes in the ongoing SIM Card registration exercise by the mobile companies.
It says this is the only way to ensure that data captured is reliable.
The registration exercise was instituted by the Authority to minimize the use of mobile phones for criminal activities.
The Director in charge of Regulation and Licensing, Joshua Peprah tells Joy Business the caution is necessary so all the players involved will get it right.
“We are satisfied with what we are hearing and we hope that it takes off without any problems and they abide by the regulations that have been established,” he said.
In place of the national ID cards, Mr Peprah said only the NHIS cards, driver’s licence cards, the voter’s registration and passport will be accepted.
