The Editor of the Ghanaian Observer newspaper, Egbert Faibille Jnr. has told Joy FM he has given to the police all information he has about the alleged assassination plot against the Member of Parliament for Tamale South.The information, he explained was substantially what the Ghanaian Observer newspaper published on the alleged meeting in the house of an NDC MP in Accra that hatched the plot. However, Egbert said he also provided additional information that was not available to the public.Egbert was interrogated by the police on Friday following a petition by Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, NDC MP for Ave Avenor in the Volta Region, for the police to investigate the Observer and the Gye Nyame Concord’s publications that alleged that Haruna Iddrisu had been targeted for assassination by members of his own party and that a meeting that hatched the plot included two NDC MPS.“I have evidence of the meeting and the people who attended the meeting, at least some of them and in as far as there are legal constraints and ethical constraints within which as a journalist I must operate, I complied with those constraints.”Egbert told Joy News on Friday he was ever ready to assist the police in any manner they thought he could be of help.Asked why he did not go to the police first with information of the assassination plot but chose to publish it, Egbert said what he did was to inform Haruna first about the information he had received concerning the threat to his life, before publishing the information.Mr. Faibille’s newspaper is one of the two papers that broke the story of the assassination attempt. Both however failed to name those behind the plot.He maintained that he has evidence of the meeting and the fact that he had not proven them should not in any way discredit his story.“When people talk about evidence I do not know what they are talking about. In any case, evidence is different from proof, you can have evidence but you may not be able to prove it and that doesn’t for example mean that because you may not be able to prove your evidence you don’t have a story, you can have a story.”
