The Old Vandals Association has called on students to exercise restraint in their fight against the new residential policy of in-out-out-out system which is to take effect next academic session.“We wish therefore to appeal to the students to exercise restraint while they fight for what they believe is a just cause,” Mr Kwesi Essel-Koomson, President of the Association said in a statement. While expressing concern over the unfortunate situation at Legon, the Association expressed its dismay over the way students were confronting university authorities and “virtually wishing that they run the university the way they want since they are always demanding that their wishes be granted.”The statement, which was issued after meetings with the student leadership at Commonwealth Hall and the Management of the University, also condemned the ‘shit-bombing’ of examination centres by unknown persons as a means of forcing the university authorities to back down on their decision. It said: “That, we believe, was barbaric and we hope it will never happen again.”The statement also condemned the call by the Commonwealth Hall JCR President on the Vice Chancellor and the registrar to resign and questioned whether the student body had the mandate to issue that statement. However, the Association said it was not happy with a situation where students were writing their examination under tight security, although it agreed that there was no option as there was threat to life and indications that students wanted to disrupt the examinations.Source: GNA
