President John Mills has announced a $20,000-prize package for each player of the Black Stars for their sterling performance in the ongoing World Cup tournament in South Africa. He has also promised the team a befitting national honours to be awarded at a later date.President John Mills made these promises at a reception held at the Castle gardens on Tuesday in honour of the Black Stars. The Stars took turns to exchange pleasantries with the president for their heroic exploits at the World Cup.A ‘cheating hand of the devil’ by Uruguay’s Luis Suarez, and a painful penalty miss by Asamoah Gyan meant the Stars could not make the historic semi-final berth, the first for any African team in the World Cup.They were kicked out in the quarter finals via a penalty shoot-out.Yet the Stars are acclaimed as Africa’s brightest spot in the World, with the efforts applauded by many African Heads of States.
President John Mills was full of praise for the youngest team at the World Cup, saying their contribution served as a uniting force, not only for Ghana but the African continent. He hoped their efforts would be replicated in subsequent competitions.
