The Obuasi Municipal Assembly is to be assisted with 59 boreholes and four institutional toilets under the Community Water and Sanitation Project (CWSP).
So far, 52 of the boreholes are under construction while the other seven have been drilled awaiting hand pump installation.
Mr Osei Assibey-Antwi, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister and acting Municipal Chief Executive, who announced this at an assembly meeting at Obuasi, said the toilets would be sited at Pomposo Catholic primary and JSS, Adaase clinic and Binsere primary school.
He said works on the projects are in progress and that over 75 per cent of work had been completed. He said the CWSP was also implementing a household toilet programme.
On the School Feeding Programme, the Deputy Regional Minister said so far the assembly had received ¢186.4 million to feed pupils at Jimiso-Kakraba and Mampamhwe, two out of the five primary schools selected to benefit from the programme.
Mr Assibey-Antwi said plans were far advanced to add the remaining three schools at Sanso, Apitikooko and Mamiriwa as well as the Methodist and Independence cluster of schools, which had been hooked to the programme.
The acting Municipal Chief Executive pointed out that the success of the feeding programme rested on the involvement of the communities and therefore urged them to take interest in it.
”This is due to the fact that chiefs and opinion leaders are the pivot in which the development of every community rotates, hence it is appropriate for them to be involved in the implementation of the programme to ensure its sustainability", Mr Assibey-Antwi stressed.
