Churches have been implored to accept the fact that their ranks have been infiltrated by people with questionable characters whose activities tend to bring the church into disrepute. A Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who made the call, also observed that it is prudent for the church not to keep mute when leaders and members exhibit bad examples, and such persons should neither be covered. “In my humble and lay opinion, the church should rise up to the challenge and point out that this is why Jesus Christ had cause to whip people who had converted the temple to something other than a house of prayer and indeed that is why even in Heaven there was Lucifer.” Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa was speaking on Wednesday at the “Success Camp 2010”, an annual event organized by the Deeper Life Schools Outreach, an arm of the Deeper Life Bible Church. It was under the theme “Reach Your Summit”, and was attended by over 1,200 youths drawn from the basic and second cycle institutions. The five-day camp meeting would treat topics such as HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, modern technology, principles of success, discovery of leadership potentials, prayers for success and God-fearing principles. The Deputy Minister remarked that not all churchgoers should be deemed as Christians, likening the situation to that of Lucifer who was in Heaven and yet was not “a good angel”. Okudzeto Ablakwa raised concern about the perception that even with the influx of churches in the society sin is still rampant. “We must also be always cognisant of Christ’s warning in Matthew 24:11 - ‘And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many’…Did our Lord not predict in Matthew 24:12 that ‘iniquity shall abound’?…” He urged the participants to be committed to the activities of the church, saying the teachings and practices their leaders would take them through are worth more than what any worldly treasure can buy. The Deputy Minister also asked participants to have Jesus Christ as their perpetual companion as the surest way of arriving at God’s purpose for their lives.
