Staff and students of the Achimota School in Accra say they are living in fear following the discovery of a fifth dead body in a year on the school premises last week.
The last corpse was found last Friday by some scrap dealers near the Pure Fire Miracles Ministries International Church which is close to the main campus.
The headmistress of the school, Beatrice Addo, told Joy News “the body is in a terrible state of decomposition”.
Some residents told The Ghanaian Times the body has been lying in the bush for weeks, explaining that efforts to get the police to retrieve the body have proven futile.
In the latest occurrence, the police say they cannot take away the body because of the advanced stage of decomposition, the headmistress revealed.
She said the police have to contact the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) who have indicated that they will have to bury the body on the school site.
The School has been fighting the encroachment of their property by squatters and estate developers for some time now.
“We are scared because we are taking care of children”, the headmistress emphasised adding that the school needs police patrols.
