Defence lawyers in the Ya Na murder trial say they are not worried at all by acts by state prosecutors that have the potential to stall the case. Yesterday they could not continue with cross examination of witnesses because state prosecutors raised doubts about the genuineness of a document the defence team has been relying on since the trial begun. Prosecutions admitted the document is a true certified copy of proceedings of the Wuaku Commission which inquired into the murder, but questioned its authenticity because it was not signed. The prosecution also sprung a surprise by presenting the 6th instead of the third witness. But lead counsel for the accused persons Lawyer Atta Akyea tells Joy News his team is determined to get justice for their clients. “They want us to prepare and put up a good defence and in fact the judge is also supposed to go the way the prosecution is going so that we have a common floor,” he said. Mr Atta Akyea said he is confident the defence team would be given prior information on prosecution witnesses in the next hearing to aid in background checks on them.
