The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is accusing the government of neglecting the fisher folks at Teshie in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, after the government promised in 2012 to build a fishing harbour for the people, the project has not seen the light of day.
“I am told Deputy Minister Nii Amasa Namoale came to Teshie in 2012 to cut the sod for a fishing harbour and he has since not been here again,” he said in Twi.
The NPP leader disclosed this to residents of the Teshie Community as he toured the area ahead of the November 2016 polls.
The three times leader of the NPP said the increasing prices of pre-mix fuel and uncontrolled electricity tariffs have rendered the sector unprofitable for the fishermen.
“Ghana is very difficult now. We can’t pay for our electricity [and] fuel is so expensive,” he said.
He explained the lack of political will by the government to stop illegal pair trolling on Ghanaian sea has resulted in the depletion of fish stock.
“The President simply cannot do the job,” he said adding residents should vote for the party in the coming elections.
Mr Akufo-Addo touted the NPP has the “track record of building a good economy [in the counry].”
“Give us the chance and the NPP will come to change the fortune of the country around,” he added.
