For many years, parties have organised Congresses for thousands of its members to elect new national executives and flagbearers.
However on Monday, Hassan Ayariga's All People’s Congress (APC) brought a new dimension to the organisation of party congresses when a handful of members converged at the Accra International Conference Centre for what turned out to be a pick and choose event.
Curiously, some of the supposed delegates who spoke to Adom FM's Maame Esi Thompson did not know what their mission was at the Congress venue; and for the few who knew, they could not tell what the procedures were in electing a new party leader and national executives.
They expected some form of voting but that was not to be. Their vote, perhaps, was just an answer to a question as to whether they were in favour of a number of personalities presented to them as would-be national executives. And when they answered in the affirmative, the personalities became their new executives.

Through that procedure Hassan Ayariga became the party leader and flagbearer.
In the interview with Esi Thompson, some of the supposed delegates confessed to being members of the NDC but had APC tags hanging around their necks.
They claimed to have been sent to the congress grounds by their MPs.
The new flagbearer of the party, Hassan Ayariga said APC will not form any alliance with any of the political parties.
"What we intend to do is to either win power or share power," he said. "Our party will stand tall," he added.
Hassan Ayariga broke away from the Peoples National Convention, a party he presided over as flagbearer in the 2012 elections.
