The Wa Sports stadium which is to serve as a league centre has been provided with ¢1.2 billion facilities ahead of the commencement of the 2007 Onetouch Premier football league season.
The facilities include spectators and media stands, offices and washrooms with showers as well as a scoreboard.
The Ghana at 50 Secretariat provided ¢932.3 million of the total cost of the project.
Mr Andrew Kodaar, Managing Director of A. Q and B Consultants, consultants to the project, formally handed over the facility to the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Ambrose Dery, who in turn presented it to the Regional Sports Development Officer, Mr Thomas Saa-nye on behalf of the National Sports Council at a handing over ceremony at Wa on Thursday.
Mr Dery explained that amount provided by the Ghana at 50 Secretariat was originally meant for the rehabilitation of stadiums in the region but the Regional Co-ordinating Council use it towards improvement of facilities at the Wa stadium.
He said the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports would complement the remaining portion of the cost of the project.
Mr Dery took the opportunity to advice football fans in the region to exhibit good sportsmanship and comport themselves during matches at the stadium when the league season begins.
Wa All Stars FC has qualified to play in the elite Premier Division when the football league commences.
Present at the ceremony was Alhaji Sadugu Yahaya, Regional Chairman of the Ghana Football Association and many football enthusiasts of the Region.
