Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has filed a defamatory suit against Montie FM’s political talk-show host, Salifu Mase, also known as Mugabe and founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Akua Donkor.
The pair, demanded that Gyan explains himself publicly if he was funding the New Patriotic Party (NPP) last month on Montie FM’s afternoon political show.
They went on to claim that the Black Stars skipper had something to do with a 40-footer container of undisclosed items also meant for the NPP to aid in their campaign for the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections in November.
However, the Shanghai SIPG striker denied those assertions and urged the National Media Commission and the Ghana Journalists Association to sanction the duo and the radio station for making unfounded allegations against him.
On Monday, July 4, Gyan’s lawyers, Cromwell Gray LLP led by Esquire Kissi Agyebeng issued a writ of summons at the Accra High Court against Mugabe Mase and Akua Donkor.
Among Gyan’s claims in the suit are general, exemplary or aggravated damages for libel, a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from repeating similar libelous words against him and costs, including his lawyers’ fees.
