The Sunyani Municipal Assembly has set up an eight-member committee to undertake the naming of newly constructed streets in the municipality.
The committee chaired by Mr Kwame Twumasi-Awuah, Municipal Chief Executive is expected to complete its work in six months.
Other members are, Brong Ahafo Regional Directors of Town and Country Planning, Land Valuation, Statistical Department, Co-ordinator of National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO), Planning Officer of the assembly, budget analyst and an assembly member.
Briefing newsmen in Sunyani, Mr Twumasi-Awuah, said Government had allocated ¢60 billion for the nationwide street naming exercise.
He said the assembly would liaise with traditional authorities and opinion leaders to undertake the exercise aimed at honouring heroes in the region, easy identification and to enable the assembly know the population in the municipality.
Mr Twumasi-Awuah said the exercise would in addition assist the assembly to mobilize more revenue through auctioning of some streets to interested individuals, institutions and corporate bodies.
He noted that the exercise would help in combating crime in the municipality since residents would be familiar with each other and easily identify suspicious characters.
"Security personnel find it difficult to locate victims of armed robbery or fire outbreaks and the exercise would help for easy identification and location," he added.
