Football's governing body, Fifa, has announced Russia and Qatar as hosts of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup tournaments respectively.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter announced the verdicts at a gathering of the football hierarchy in Zurich moments ago.
Russia beat rival bids from England, Portugal-Spain, Netherlands-Belgium to host the football mundial for the first time.
Qatar also edged out Australia, the United States, South Korea and Japan also for a historic first time hosting.
Brazil will host the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which will be the 20th FIFA World Cup.
Thursday’s decisions came after the bidding countries made their final presentations with Blatter announcing that a secret ballot of Fifa's 22 executive members decided the winners.
