Premier League Board Chairman Welbeck Abra Appiah says the recent slump in form by the country’s two traditional football powerhouses Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko could further reduce the patronage of the Premier League.
Hearts of Oak who suffered their 5th defeat of the season to Berekum Arsenals Sunday are placed 8th on the league standings.
On the other hand, Asante Kotoko have dropped into the relegation zone after failing to secure a win in their last 8 league matches.
Welbeck Abra Appiah believes a resurgence in performance of both clubs would revive a huge interest in the local league.
“When Kotoko and Hearts are doing well, you see a kind of interest generated in all the sporting arena,” he said.
He said when the two top teams fail to impress, people stop going to the stadiums to watch matches and the game is the poorer for it.
