The Vice Chairman of the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) legal team, Kwaku Ayieh has described the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s invasion of the GFA office on Tuesday as illegal.
According to Mr. Ayieh, the law clearly states that a Police officer and an officer in charge of the investigation who are the only personnel allowed to carry out the search must provide an inventory to the party being investigated to sign after they are done with their search.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Sports Morning Show, Mr. Ayieh noted that, it was illegal for the Economic and Organised Crime Office to besiege the offices of the FA, blocking the entrance and seizing mobile phones from people who wanted access into the premises.
"The manner they carried out the court order...was not right," he stressed.
Mr. Ayieh believes there is so much misinformation about the state of the football association, stating that the association is never a public institution as understood by the public.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office, Mordey Akpadie has debunked accusations insisting that the order from the court gave them the power to take operational measures to seize documents which will help them in their investigation.
In a related development the Sports Callers Association have sent an appeal to President Mills calling on him to find a solution to the problem before FIFA bans Ghana.
The group promised to hold the government responsible if the world football governing body suspends Ghana.
They further threatened to organise a massive demonstration across the country if the impasse is not resolved soon.
