Football’s world governing body confirmed that the West African country is among several countries who are bidding to host the events. The Ghana Football Association has until 11 February to submit their signed Hosting Agreements, together with their complete Bid Books. Ghana will know whether it has been granted the rights to host the two tournaments at the beginning of March. The respective hosts of the competitions will be appointed by the FIFA Executive Committee on 2-3 March 2011. Ghana will face a tough competition from big-spenders the United Arab Emirates for the rights to the Under-17 World Cup in 2013. But the field for the Fifa Women’s Under-17 World Cup in 2014 is much stronger with Costa Rica, Macedonia, Russia, UAE and Uzbekistan all keen on hosting the event. “Such a large and diverse level of interest in both FIFA’s women’s and youth competitions demonstrates the attractiveness of our events,” said FIFA Secretary General, Jérôme Valcke. “Our member associations often look to utilise these competitions as a catalyst for further promoting and developing football in their countries. “We have received bids from around the globe, including some member associations who have previously hosted one or more FIFA competitions, and others who are bidding for the first time. “Once again this process shows the universal appeal of our game.” Ghana has already got lots of facilities in place for the tournaments having hosted the African Cup of Nations in 2008 with four brand news stadia in Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale. A new stadium could also be built in Cape Coast.
