Edward Ampratwum, a researcher at the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD) is asking political pressure groups in the country to increase their base and make their membership more reflective of the exact things they fight for. He said this will make them more relevant to society.
Mr. Ampratwum was speaking on the Status Quo, a current affairs programme on Multi TV which seeks to probe issues of national interest and find solutions to it.
He made reference to other parts of the world where pressure groups do not just take to the streets to express their displeasure on government policies but have raised critical issues and fought for vital legislations. For instance, matters related to education, health and good service delivery in public sectors.
In this light, Mr. Edward Ampratwum said if there will be pressure groups like education pressure group, health pressure group and the likes, then their relevance will be felt by society at large.
On their part, Messrs Benard Mornah and Abu Rahmadan representatives for the Committee for Joint Action and the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) respectively, jointly agreed to that, they will seek other means of expressing their grievances but whenever government refuses to respond to their concerns they will have no option but hit the streets.
They said their actions serve as checks on a sitting government to deliver on its promises and work in the interest of the electorate.
