Four people were killed over the weekend in two separate accidents at Tamale and Terchire near Duayaw Nkwanta in the Northern and Brong Ahafo regions respectively.
Two ladies on a motorbike were run over by a speeding Benz bus in Tamale while a Mercedes Benz car ran into an articulated truck, killing the two occupants at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Tano North District of Brong Ahafo.
In the Tamale incident, the two died on the spot when the Benz bus with registration number AS 52 A ran over them at Gurugu, a suburb of the metropolis, late last Saturday.
The victims, two ladies in their early 30s, were riding a motorbike popularly called "Mapouka" with registration number NR 1789 Z when the vehicle ran over them, killing both instantly.
Speaking to Daily Guide, the Assemblyman of Gurugu Electoral Area Stephen Alhassan William, who witnessed the accident, said the Benz bus was heading towards Kumbungu in the Tolon-Kumbungu district with passengers.
He disclosed that the two ladies were coming from Jisonaayili, another suburb of the metropolis, but on reaching the junction where the accident occurred, the rider failed to stop.
The vehicle also at top speed from the other direction ran over the motorbike riders who were not wearing crash helmets, killing them on the spot.
The driver's mate, who was sitting on top of the vehicle, also fell flat on his back losing consciousness and was rushed to the hospital by onlookers. At the time of filling the story, he was said to be responding to treatment.
The excel motorbike used by the ladies was destroyed beyond recognition when Daily Guide visited the scene.
The bodies of the deceased persons had been deposited at the Tamale Teaching hospital morgue while efforts were underway to contact their relatives.
Mr. Alhassan indicated that an of1icial complaint had been lodged with the police who were yet to visit the scene of the accident to tow away the accident vehicle.
In the second accident, two occupants of a saloon Benz car died at Terchire near Duayaw Nkwanta in the Tano North when the driver of the vehicle ran into an articulated truck.
Kwame Amponsah, 36, the driver of the saloon car with registration number AS 3437 U, died instantly with the head severed of off while the other passenger, Seidu Harruna, died later at the Sunyani Regional Hospital.
According to the Duayaw Nkwanta District Police Commander, Mr. Samuel Latebu, the accident happened around 8pm on Saturday when the trailer belonging to EMMADREK Enterprise was travelling from the Tema Port to Berekum to load cocoa.
He said, at Terchire the saloon car which was also heading towards Sunyani from Kumasi was believed to be travelling at top speed and had wanted to overtake the articulated truck but unfortunately, it ran into the rear of the truck and somersaulted several times before finally landing on its roof.
ASP Latebu said the drivver of the articulated truck, Kwasi Boateng. 39, was temporarily detained by the Terchire Police to help in their investigations.
Meanwhile, the bodies of Kwame Amponsah and Seidu I Harruna have been deposited at the Duayaw Nkwanta St. John of God Hospital and the Sunyani Regional Hospital respectively.
