The Ghana Pentecostal Council has condemned the “all-die-be-die” comments made by the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The Pentecostal Council has described the comments as most unfortunate and said it could be the root of political violence in the country. The council is the second religious body to express worry over the comments after the National Association of Christian and Charismatic Churches (NACCC) also registered its revulsion against the comments made by Nana Akufo Addo. Nana Addo addressing party supporters last week in the Eastern Region urged them to be bold and courageous and not take any form of intimidation from members of the ruling NDC party during election 2012 saying “all die be die”. His comments have since drawn widespread condemnation by members of the ruling NDC government and a cross section of the public with a call on him to apologise or retract the statements. However, leading members of NPP have stated that neither the party nor Nana Addo will apologise since there was nothing wrong with the comments. Speaking to Citi News, the General Secretary of the Council, Apostle S.Y Antwi told Citi News that political leaders in the country must use decorous language or risk plunging the country into chaos. “If you make such a statement as a party leader it is subject to all forms of interpretation. You might mean something but if you listen to the discussions, everybody is trying to draw a conclusion from it somehow. People out of misunderstanding can perpetuate political violence. We raised a similar issue when there was this many ways to kill a cat saga. “When you say these statements some rogue elements in society may take advantage and cause mayhem because they didn’t understand what was said”.
