The Case of two friends and three dogs that were mysteriously killed after allegedly being struck by lightning last week has assumed a new twist. A pathologist brought in from Kumasi by the Assin Foso Police to perform an autopsy on the bodies of Yaw Bondam and Nicolas Fianoo made preliminary conclusions that the two were hit by heavy objects and may not have been struck by lightning. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alhassan Sabaliko, Assin Foso Divisional Commander told this Daily Guide that the police were putting in place the necessary measures to arrest and prosecute those involved in such a heinous crime. He said there were potential suspects and witnesses that the police would be targeting. "Now that we have the confirmation from the pathologist, we will swing into action." Assin Wawaase, a farming community near Assin Foso in the Central Region was thrown into a state of shock and mourning following the mysterious deaths of the two friends together with their three dogs. The two, Bondum, 33 and Fianoo, 25, were found lying dead beside their dogs on Thursday February 10, 2011, following heavy rains in the town and other Parts of the country. DSP Sabaliko when contacted on Tuesday, confirmed the tragic incident and said the police were not ruling out any foul play even though the majority of people were concluding that lightning might have struck the two friends. DSP Sabaliko said the incident occurred about 15 kilometres south of Assin Foso, the district capital and noted that it was not the first time such a bizarre incident was happening in the area. "After a thunder storm, there was heavy rain on Thursday and our initial investigations showed that the two men and their three dogs were found in the bush at a place called Bediadua near Wawaase" According to Seth Mantey, a local reporter with Nkwa FM in Assin Foso, eyewitnesses in the area claimed the two were killed by thunder and lightning and quoted a man called Yaw Owusu as saying he went to the bush with the deceased persons but was not at the scene when the thunder struck. He quoted Yaw Owusu as saying that the deceased, after the day's work, decided to go for palm wine at about 11:30 am while he remained on his cocoa farm after which the rains started amidst thunder and lightning. After the rain, he came across the corpses on his way home and quickly raised an alarm. According to some members of the community, Bondam and Fianoo were alleged thieves who stole from farms at the least opportunity. Ofori Asiamah, Unit community Chairman and Nkosuohene of Wawaase, said the two human bodies, three dead dogs, a catapult and a shirt were found at the crime scene. Source: Daily Guide
