The Gonja Traditional Council says the embattled chief of Buipe, Abdulai Jinapor should desist from holding himself as the chief of Buipe despite yesterday’s ruling by the National House of Chiefs.
The legitimacy of Abdulai Jinapor is being challenged by other claimants to the skin and the Gonja traditional council.
Last month, a Tamale High Court quashed a decision by the Gonja traditional Council to de-skin Abdulai Jinapor for acts of insubordination and disrespect.
But the National House of Chiefs determining a matter brought before challenging the legitimacy of the chief ruled in Abdulai Jinapor’s favour, a decision the Traditional Council says bordered on only succession to the stool and not the alleged insubordination on which grounds Abdulai Jinapor was purportedly de-skinned.
The Spokesperson for the Gonja Traditional Council, Doli-Wura Zakaria said it did not lie in the hands of the National House of Chiefs to determine who should or should not be a Buipe-wura.
“It is only Yagbonwura who enskins the Buipe-Wura…we have our own constitution which is what we have followed to [de-skin Mr Jinapor]” he stated.
