Two police officers, Daniel Omar and Isaac Kumah, have been arrested after an attempt to rob a small-scale mining site in the Central region failed.
Two others are also in the grips of the Dunkwa District Police Command following the incident in the Upper Denkyira East constituency in Kyikyire near Dunkwa Offin.
The suspects had their faces bloodied and swollen after severe beatings at the hands of angry workers at the miniing site.
According to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei, the police suspects are stationed at the Kotokraba District Police Command in Cape Coast but traveled the long distance for the operation.
The NDC constituency Chairman for Upper Denkyira East, Nicholas Quaicoo who disclosed this said the policemen armed with AK47 were caught off guard by some of the night security personnel during their operation.
They confessed, following their arrest, that they were serving as escorts to the robbers who claimed they were gold dealers.
But for the intervention of the NDC Constituency Chairman for Upper Denkyira East also known as Chairman Armah, the suspected would have been lynched by the angry workers.
