The Police in Brong Ahafo Region have arrested six more persons alleged to have been involved in post-election disturbances.

They include New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s First Vice Chairman in Bechem, Alex Asare and five others.

Mr Asare is said to have led one Justice Appiah to forcibly take over three toilet facilities at Derma near Bechem.

According to the police, Mr Asare’s wife, Yaa Achia also attacked one Veronica Owusu, who was managing one of the toilet facilities. In the scuffle, Mrs Owusu is said to have lost two of her teeth and some strands of her Rasta plaited hair.

Mr Asare, the wife and Mr Appiah were charged and granted bail, pending their appearance in court on Thursday.

In a related incident, three others namely Emmanuel Asare, Joshua Owusu and Eric Amoyisi were arrested by the police for attacking and inflicting cutlass wounds on one Eric Kwame on January 14.

The police are still investigating Messrs Asare, Owusu and Amoyisi for their actions.

Post-election violence allegedly started by supporters of the NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) has led to the destruction of some state properties.

A toll booth in the Brong Ahafo Region was set ablaze by some NPP supporters after the party was declared winner of the 2016 presidential poll.

This was followed by mass seizure of state institutions starting from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office in Tamale to Rattray Park in Kumasi.

Sections of Ghanaians questioned the resolve of the police to bring the perpetrators to face the law.

But at a press briefing held last week, Police PRO, Superintendent Cephas Arthur said the Service has been working to maintain peace.

He disclosed the police have arrested 16 persons in connection with the post-election violence and have had them arraigned before the court.

The Service has directed its regional commanders to arrest all perpetrators by Friday, January 20.
